Omaha Hi-Lo: Basic Outline

Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha/8 or better) is often times viewed as one of the most complex but favored poker games. It’s a game that, even more than normal Omaha poker, aims for action from all levels of players. This is the main reason why a once invisible variation, has grown in popularity so quickly.
Omaha/8 starts exactly like a regular game of Omaha. 4 cards are handed out to each player. A sequence of wagering follows where gamblers can wager, check, or fold. 3 cards are given out, this is known as the flop. One more sequence of wagering happens. Once all the players have either called or dropped out, an additional card is revealed on the turn. a further sequence of betting happens and then the river card is flipped. The gamblers will need to put together the strongest high and low 5 card hands based on the board and hole cards.
This is the point where many players often get baffled. Unlike Holdem, in which the board can be every player’s hand, in Omaha hi low the player has to use precisely 3 cards from the board, and precisely 2 hole cards. No more, no less. Contrary to regular Omaha, there are two ways a pot can be won: the "high hand" or the "lower hand."
A high hand is exactly how it sounds. It is the best hand out of everyone’s, whether that is a straight, flush, full house, etc. It’s the identical concept in almost every poker game.
A lower hand is more difficult, but certainly free’s up the play. When deciding on a low hand, straights and flushes don’t count. A low hand is the weakest hand that can be made, with the lowest value being made up of A-2-3-4-5. Considering that straights and flushes do not count, A-2-3-4-5 is the smallest value hand possible. The lower hand is any 5 card hand (unpaired) with an 8 and lower. The lower hand takes half of the pot, as just like the higher hand. When there is no lower hand available, the higher hand takes the whole pot.
While it seems difficult at the start, after a few hands you will be able to pick up on the base subtleties of the game with ease. Since you have individuals wagering for the low and betting for the high, and seeing as so many cards are in play, Omaha/8 provides an overwhelming assortment of betting options and seeing that you have several individuals shooting for the high, and many battling for the low hand. If you enjoy a game with a considerable amount of outs and actions, it’s not a waste of your time to participate in Omaha/8.
