Omaha Hi Lo: Fundamental Summary

Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha 8 or better) is commonly viewed as one of the most complicated but favored poker games. It is a variation that, even more than normal Omaha poker, invites action from all levels of players. This is the primary reason why a once obscure variation, has grown in popularity so amazingly.
Omaha/8 starts exactly like a regular game of Omaha. 4 cards are handed out to each player. A round of betting follows where gamblers can bet, check, or drop out. Three cards are handed out, this is referred to as the flop. One more sequence of wagering happens. Once all the gamblers have either called or folded, another card is flipped on the turn. a further sequence of betting follows at which point the river card is flipped. The gamblers must attempt to make the best high and low 5 card hands based on the board and hole cards.
This is the point where a few entrants get confused. Contrasted to Texas Holdem, in which the board can be every player’s hand, in Omaha hi lo the player must use exactly 3 cards on the board, and exactly 2 hole cards. No more, no less. Unlike regular Omaha, there are 2 ways a pot may be won: the "higher hand" or the "lower hand."
A high hand is just how it sounds. It is the best hand out of everyone’s, regardless if it is a straight, flush, full house, etc. It’s the very same approach in just about all poker games.
A low hand is more complicated, but really opens up the action. When deciding on a low hand, straights and flushes don’t count. A low hand is the weakest hand that can be put together, with the worst being A-2-3-4-5. Considering that straights and flushes don’t count, A-2-3-4-5 is the lowest value hand possible. The lower hand is any five card hand (unpaired) with an eight and smaller. The lower hand wins half of the pot, as does the high hand. When there’s no low hand available, the higher hand takes the entire pot.
It may seem complicated at first, following a few hands you will be able to get the fundamental nuances of the game simply enough. Seeing as you have people wagering for the low and wagering for the high, and seeing as so many cards are in play, Omaha 8 or better provides an amazing range of betting choices and because you have many individuals battling for the high, as well as a few shooting for the low. If you enjoy a game with all kinds of outs and actions, it’s not a waste of your time to compete in Omaha/8.
